Angel was one of the most famous vampires in history. In his human life, he was a drunk and a waste. Born Liam in 1727 in Galway, Ireland, he was a disappointment to his father. He never grew up to be what his family expected him to be. Now he doesn’t grow old at all. He was sired by Darla, who had an intense attraction to him. The two commited sadistic and artful acts of violence together and Liam became Angelus, The Scourge of Europe. A demon with an Angel’s face. In 1898 however, Angelus chose the wrong person to kidnap and torture. He took a young gypsy girl as a gift to his beloved Darla and the two drank her dry. In revenge for the act, the girl’s family cursed Angelus with a soul. He would know human pain and live with the torment of his sins and if he ever knew true happiness, his soul would be ripped from him once more. He attempted to resume his life with Darla as normal, but he was condemned to feel too deeply and could only bring himself to harm animals, rapists and murders. Darla, disgusted with him, abandoned him.

For almost a century, he lived in torment. He lived in the darkness, feeding off rats and sometimes slipping, taking human blood only to later hate himself for it. He found purpose, helping the slayer Buffy Summers. In spite of himself, Angel fell in love with her. On the night they made love, he lost his soul once more. After a failed attempt at destroying the world, Angel was sent to a hell dimension, but only after a spell restored his soul. He suffered there for years, almost forgetting who he was, until he was brought back for reasons unknown to him. He attempted to rebuild his relationship with Buffy but realized she would never have a normal life with him. He moved to Los Angeles and began his own private detective agency, specializing in the supernatural. During a difficult period, Angel found himself seeking physical comfort with Darla in an attempt to lose his soul and become Angelus once more. Failing to reach perfect happiness, he held onto his humanity, realizing his purpose was still to do good. The two defied logic and physics when she fell pregnant. Darla left after the boy, Connor, was born. All seemed well until one of Angel’s old enemies, Holtz, kidnapped Connor and raised him in the hell dimension Quor’toth under the belief Holtz was his father. He was raised to hate and kill Angel. When Connor returned to Angel’s dimension, he was sixteen although only days had passed in Angel’s reality. 

After the two fought, made up, and fought once more, Angel made a deal with the evil law firm Wolfram & Hart. Connor would be given a new life, new memories, a human upbringing and nobody but Angel would remember that he was Angel’s son. In exchange, Angel would run the Los Angeles division of Wolfram & Hart. Thinking that Angel’s intentions were being twisted by the law firm, Buffy and her allies lost their trust in him. Angel finally understood that he would never be able to completely stop the forces of evil, but that he could temporarily sever the Senior Partners’ hold on Earth and stop their apocalyptic plans. To this end, Angel pretended to delve deeper into the darkness and fooled the Senior Partners and his teammates into thinking that he desired to join the Circle of the Black Thorn, the Senior Partners’ instruments on Earth.

Together with his comrades, Angel prepared to destroy the Circle of the Black Thorn, a battle that none of them expected to survive. Though some of them were severely wounded in the battle, the team made it through. Leaving the defunct Los Angeles law firm, Angel recreated Angel Investigations. During the events leading up to the battle, Connor had figured out his true identity, although the memories of his life in the hell dimension and his hatred of his father were gone. The two were able to mend their relationship and operate together fairly normally. Here at Earth’s Chosen Heroes we are still searching for our Angel. As the head of Angel Investigations, Angel will play an important role in the war between vampires and humans, being one of the few vampires to fight on the side of humanity. Angel and his team will be on the front-line, fighting against the growing Los Angeles vampire clan as well as liasing with the Slayer Organization branches, particularly those led by Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane.
